Pastor: Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Adkison
The Rev. Dr. Stephen “Steve” Adkison grew up in Russellville, Arkansas.
He graduated from Russellville High School with honors in 1987, from Arkansas Tech University with a B.A. degree in Speech and Theater in 1992, from the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky with a Master of Divinity degree in 1995, and from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California with a Doctor of Ministry degree in 2011. Before being called to Chapel, Dr. Adkison served churches in Indiana (1994-1997); Arkansas (1997-2008); and Missouri (2008-2013).
In addition to parish ministry, he served as a Pastoral Counselor at Norton Psychiatric Clinic in Louisville; and as an Adjunct Professor of Speech Communication at Hannibal LaGrange University in Hannibal, Missouri from 2011 to 2013. He has also served as a member of the Chaplaincy Corp of Hannibal Regional Hospital and served as its president in 2013-2014. Dr. Adkison enjoys fishing, aviation, reading, travel, playing and listening to music, running marathons and martial arts.
Director of Music Ministries: Michael Melnikov
A very talented musician, Michael was born in Russia during the Communist rule over the former Soviet Union. He came to America several years ago in a search for religious freedom. He plays Chapel’s marvelous pipe organ on Sunday mornings and directs the Chancel Choir and the Chapel Bell Choir.
Office Administrator: Denise Armstrong
Our Office Administrator hails from South Carolina. She comes from a strong military family. Denise has an extensive back-ground working with nonprofits and volunteer groups and brings that same experience and enthusiasm to our Chapel community. Her favorite pastimes are cooking and growing fresh vegetables.
Administrative Assistant: Holly Tribble
Holly’s smiling face is the first you see when entering the Chapel office. She has lived on the island over twelve years and loves it. Holly works with Pastor Steve, handles many day-to-day office problems and oversees the church publications.
Facilities Manager: Philip Jordan (Phil)
Philip Jordan (Phil) is the new Facilities Manager at Chapel by the Sea. Born in Great Britain, Phil served in the British Military for eight years, mostly in the Middle and Far East. Having retired from the corporate world in 2003, until recently Phil spent summers in the Mediterranean. These days he lives on Fort Myers Beach and enjoys playing golf. He has a daughter, son-in-law, four grandchildren and three grand-dogs.
Darren Harkulich, our new Sexton at Chapel by the Sea, started in April. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, he began working as a bagger in a grocery store and worked his way up to store manager. After that, he started his own cleaning business. Married, with 2 grown boys, he and his family moved to FL in 2015. Some of Darren’s hobbies include sports, music and being active.
