Sew & Sews meets every Thursday from 10 am – 2 pm in Room 5/6 of the Education Bldg. Sewing experience is not required. There are “non” sewing opportunities available. You may even come just for the fellowship. The group breaks for lunch at noon, so please bring a bagged lunch with you.

Sew & Sews works on projects with several mission-focused organizations.  One such organization is GRACE (Guatemala Rural Adult and Children Education), affiliated with the Unitarian Church. GRACE provides feminine hygiene kits to school-aged girls.

Without these kits, the girls would be unable to attend school and continue

to fall behind in their studies. After the distribution of these kits,

school absence rates drop from 36% to 8%.

Program Director, Genelle Grant, also establishes health classes and

training so when these young girls grow up they can teach and support hygiene

needs in their community.

Sew & Sews makes the reusable, washable menstrual pads,

constructs the draw-stings bags, and strings together

fertility bracelets. Also included in the kits are size 14 briefs,

washcloths, soap, and a gallon-size Ziploc freezer bag.

Many cannot afford the monthly disposal pads or, in some

cases, the items are rationed or not available at all.

Sew & Sews is preparing to make another shipment to include

over 300 pads and bags. One way you can help is by donating

some of the items listed above. Most needed items are briefs,

washcloths, and Ziploc bags.
