Mission Moments

Living Gift Market

Please keep in mind our LIVING GIFT MARKET at Chapel by the Sea when you’re trying to decide on a Christmas gift for a friend or loved one this year.  A living gift is a gift of self-reliance that keeps on giving and makes a long-lasting difference; truly a gift of hope.  Choose gifts in the name of a friends, family members or co-workers from Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International, God’s Table and Medical Benevolence Foundation. Brochures about the agencies we sponsor, the shopping list of gifts to choose, an order blank and more detailed information will be available soon.  Information and order sheets will be available at our displays on the patio.  The Market will begin on November 30, each Sunday morning through December 14, from 9 am -12:15 pm.

ECHO DINNER

The Mission Committee has again accepted ECHO’S invitation to cook and serve a meal for 250 delegates on Tuesday, December 9th. We need help in the Chapel Kitchen from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and serving help in the afternoon from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at ECHO. We also need the donation of many cookies. There is a sign up sheet in the office. Please call Ginny Slavens at 765-9704 if you have any questions.

TOYS FOR IMMOKALEE

Toys and gifts will be collected for the children of the Guadalupe Center in Immokalee this Christmas season beginning Sunday, November 30 through Sunday, December 14.  The Center works with other agencies to assure that gifts are not duplicated nor children left out.  Ages are birth through high school. There is a need for nicer gifts ($10-$20) and gifts for the older, high school children in this community of mostly migrant worker families. Please be considerate of this when selecting toys, games, sports equipment, board games (with batteries provided), paints, books, coloring books and crayons, puzzles and culturally sensitive dolls, as a few suggestions. Wrapping paper, tape and cash are appreciated.  Gifts should be new, unwrapped and non-violent.  There will be an area in Silver Hall designated specifically for TOYS FOR IMMOKALEE.

3 Cents A Meal

Lest we forget..it is the final month of 2008; time to catch up on our 3-Cents-a-Meal (formerly 2-Cents-a-Meal), the Presbyterian hunger program that we support in conjunction with other churches in the Peace River Presbytery.  There are 3-Cents-a-Meal containers in the Chapel narthex and on the chancel steps. A bank you can make at home from an empty butter container is a good place to save $.09 cents a day or a good place to empty the loose change from your pocket at the end of the day.  Either way, you are doing a small part in recycling to make a big difference in ecology just as 3-Cents-a-Meal is a small part to help make a big difference in fighting hunger. Seven days worth of 3-cents is $.72 cents a week but if you prefer to write a check for a year’s worth of 3-Cents-a-Meal, make it payable to Chapel by the Sea for $37.44 and note that it is for 3-Cents-a-Meal.

SOUP KITCHEN:  The December trip to the Soup Kitchen is scheduled for Wednesday, December 10th. Plan to join Chapel volunteers for a trip to the Soup Kitchen in Immokalee. The Chapel bus leaves at 9:15am and returns around 2:30pm. This worthwhile mission witnesses God’s love to many people in need. Call the office for more details.
