Beth-El Farm Worker Ministry, Inc. |
|
Beth-El is a ministry of compassion, self-development, and justice provided by the presbytery of Tampa Bay, Peace River Presbytery, and Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Self-development is promoted with classes in English and Spanish, job development, and advocacy for support of farm workers and the poor. Through an extensive program of assistance and self help, Beth-EL serves the rural poor in the Ruskin-Wimauma area of Hillsborough County. In late 2006, the program was expanded to Immokalee by establishing a reformed traditional church for Spanish speaking workers. Social services, worship services, Christian education and evangelistic outreach are all offered at both locations. |

This is a non-profit organization located on the grounds of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Immokalee. The center provides a soup kitchen five days a week. In addition those in need have access to showers and clean clothing three days a week. Daycare for infants through pre school is provided, as well as after school tutoring for grades K-4. The Chapel aids the mission monetarily as well as volunteers who work in the Soup Kitchen. Chapel also sponsors the collection of Christmas toys for the children of Immokalee who are from mostly migrant worker families. Generally, a group goes to work by Chapel mini-bus one day a week through the winter season, depending on available building sites.
