God our Father; You led men and women to this land, and out of conflict and created in us a love of peace and liberty.  We have failed You by neglecting rights and restricting freedoms.  Forgive pride that overlooks national wrong, or justifies injustice.  Forgive divisions caused by prejudice or greed.  Have mercy, God, on the heart of this land.  Make us compassionate, fair, and helpful to each other, through Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

RESPONSE TO THE WORD OF GOD

*affIRMATION OF FAITH (Unison)                                          The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead, He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

WE WELCOME REV. BEN KELLER to our pulpit today.  Ben is a chaplain with the Lee County Hospital system.  He is an ordained Presbyterian pastor and is a member of the Presbytery of Peace River.  His wife is also a Presbyterian pastor, working as the Associate Pastor at Cypress Lake.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY: Our pastor, Dr. Pittendreigh, is out of town this week attending General Assembly for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) The meetings in Minneapolis began Saturday, July 3, and will continue through Saturday, July 10.  Dr. Pittendreigh will be writing a daily report on the Internet on what happens at General Assembly – visit http://219thgeneralassembly.blogspot.com/ to stay up-to-date with the latest news.

PLAN TO STAY TODAY: Hamburger lunch will be served in Silver Hall immediately following this service. We’ll set out folding chairs and watch the Fort Myers Beach 4th of July Parade from the comfort of Chapel’s veranda. A Community Carnival will be held at Chapel immediately following the parade with plenty of carnival favorite foods: hot dogs, chips, drinks, popcorn, pretzels/cheese, cotton candy, and snow cones!  Along with the food there will be a water slide, carnival games, prizes, face painting, and more.  Proceeds will benefit our youth programs.
